Viewers explore; editors add and edit; owners also manage members, invitations, preferences, billing, export and deletion. Owners change roles from Settings → Members. See invite relatives.
Living people
Hide details of living people and people with unknown life status from viewers is on by default in Settings → Preferences. Viewers then see names and connections but not dates, places or material about anyone living or of unknown status. Editors and owners see everything. Unknown is treated like living on purpose.
Life status is a decision, not a guess from a birth year. Settings → Review life status lists people whose status was never recorded, so an editor can decide rather than leaving the app to assume.
Who can see an item
Every memory and record has an audience: family members, editors and owners, or owners only. Material linked to a living person or someone of unknown status starts with editors and owners. Change it in the item’s details. Answers to memory requests carry the audience chosen when the question was asked.
Filing is separate from privacy: an item in the Archive inbox waiting for its people is already visible to whoever its audience allows.
Handing the archive on
Add a second owner early. Owners can hand sponsorship of the plan to another member, and a professional can hand a client archive to its family with a status both sides can see. If an owner’s account is deleted, the family is not; custody rules let a remaining member claim it, with a review period for contested claims.
Deleting your own account, from Account settings, removes your sign-in and access to every family; shared material stays with the families it belongs to. Families with no remaining owner enter a pending-deletion period first.
