Keeping the archive safe · 10 min

Restore from a backup

Restoration never overwrites. A backup becomes a new archive beside the old one, so you can check it before deciding which to keep.

  2. Step 2. Upload the ZIP. It is inspected first: how many people, memories, records and originals it holds, which version made it, and anything it cannot restore.

  3. Step 3. Review the summary. The new archive is not created until you confirm.

Confirm to create a new family archive from the backup. Progress is shown as it runs; a stalled step can be retried, and the job can be cancelled. When it finishes you own the restored archive and can explore it like any other.

  • Access rules travel with the restored material; AI-use permissions are not restored silently and must be granted again.
  • Translations, contributor labels, tours, merge history and reviewed-story history are preserved.
  • The original archive is untouched. Delete whichever copy you do not need once you have compared them.
